Watergate in Berlin offers cutting edge Electronic music, a tough door, a cool crowd and a brilliant view over the Spree. [Read the Nightclub & Bar Review]
Nightclub & Bar Review
Since opening its doors in 2002, Watergate has created a well-deserved reputation as being one of the best clubs in Berlin. It's also know for having one of the strictest door policies in the city, and it’s not uncommon to see some Berlin’s most fashion-conscious turned away on the regular.
Despite the tough-door, once inside music lovers are welcomed with an impressive nightclub experience, highlighted by a glowing, full-length LED ceiling display and floor-to-ceiling glass offering views over the River Spree. The view over the water at night while clubbers go wild inside has to be one of the most unique experiences in the Berlin clubbing scene, adding another level to the madness, and the design in general fits perfectly with the jagged Techno and crispy Minimal.
Music from some of the worlds top Electronic DJ’s flood the 2 floors, with a top level offering a spacious dance floor with plenty of room to get your dance on, while the lower, smaller level still maintains a lively atmosphere alongside a mix of lounge spaces to enjoy the scene inside or - for those with the stamina - the chance to watch the sun rise over the Oberbaumbrücke as the party continues well into the day (a night at Watergate inevitably turns into a morning at Watergate...).
During summer, Watergate takes advantage of its fantastic waterside setting, opening the doors and offering crowds the chance to take in the House and Minimalist beats from the jetty, adding to its allure as one of Berlin’s most unique clubbing experiences (add it to the list next to Berghain and Tresor).
Keep in mind that (given its reputation amongst clubbers worldwide) the line for getting in on a busy night can run to 1 or 2 hours (especially around the peak time of 2am), and there's still no guarantee you'll actually make it inside...that being said, on the whole Watergate lives up to the hype, and if you love House, EDM and Techno there’s no better setting than this waterfront powerhouse to enjoy some of the world's best dance music in the mecca for Techno.
