Nightclub & Bar Review

The Colony is a majestically fresh venue with a sea-sprayed nautical theme that looks like it sailed to the West Coast straight from the Hamptons. From the front entrance that ducks beneath a life-guard’s tower via a cheeky wooden-walkway through to the sail-boat shaped benches, The Colony is a super-popular Los Angeles club that’s still chilled enough to have a laugh at itself (and given that it sits in the same spot as 3 previous clubs, it pays to be light-hearted...). The interior is light and sunny, and the open-air dance-floor is a really nice touch that adds to the theme.

Like most of SBE's venues, The Colony has managed to keep itself relevant with a whole bunch of busy nights, visiting celebs and dance-floor savvy DJ's. The decor and ambience are as much of a drawcard as the crowd, and given its central location and unique theme, it's definitely worth checking out when you're in the Hollywood /Highlands zone. They cater for parties and do the standard LA-style bottle service thing as well, with some cheeky offerings for those of us on a budget, with specials like 'Baller on a Budget' and 'Tryin' to Make a Dollar out of Fifteen Cents': handy if payday's a week away but you just gotta represent;)

The 'drinks' at The Colony are just as fun, with alcoholic ‘sushi’ (Jell-o shots wrapped in rice-paper), popsicles and champagne sorbet which you can enjoy while reclining in one of the many hammocks or just lounging in the comfortable cabana seating. The Colony brings a touch of the upper-class East to Hollywood, and it’s a refreshing change to be surrounded by rough wood and glowing pastels in one of the best clubs in Los Angeles. Check out the schedule to see what kind of music / crowd you can expect on any given night, and keep an eye out for Lollipop Mondays, The Colony's packed-out Hip-Hop night.
