Nightclub & Bar Review

It’s funny how things turn out sometimes. Consider Webster Hall in New York. Housed in a multi-story venue that was the first true modern-nightclub in the US (from 1865 - that’s old school!), this spot is still being reinvented to the point that it was just voted Nightclub of the Year for 2011 (Nightclub & Bar Awards). On top of that, Webster Hall is consistently rated as one of the best nightclubs year-after-year, with no signs of slowing down.

So - what’s the big deal? What makes Webster Hall so special? Let’s start with the most important element - the music. The music programming here is off the charts. These guys have their ears to the ground to ensure that they’re always bringing in the freshest, most cutting-edge artists. From EDM, to Hip-Hop, Dubstep, Rock - the best-of-the-best play here on a weekly basis. It also has a reputation as a proving ground for a whole generation of Indi-Rock acts, so regardless of whether you like your music made by man or machines you’ll definitely find something here to love. On top of all of that the sound at Webster Hall is top-notch - the top-end is crisp and smooth, and the bass thumps throughout the large main-room without losing any shape, perfect for when a group like Nero comes to smash the system.

Spread over 4-levels, this club has multiple rooms, cool balconies for checking out the action, a whole bunch of bars and even a couple of little-known backrooms with a more intimate vibe. There’s a basement-level performance area, and of course, the main-room which is enormous enough to pack in the fans with room to spare. The lighting is usually world-class as well, and all adds to an epic ambiance. Girls - just so you know in advance - the bathrooms upstairs are unisex, which may come as a surprise to some depending on where you’re from.

The drinks are reasonably priced and do the job, although obviously this isn’t the kind of place to hit-up when you’re after some classy cocktails and a sit-down. The crowd is super-mixed and hard to pin-down because the genres of music change so often - it all depends on who’s playing, so make sure you check their listings before you head along. The dress code is relaxed and the vibe crazy on the big nights. Check it out.
