Nightclub & Bar Review

Fluc is an edgy nightclub / performance space / indie-art collective housed in a quirky building next to Vienna's Prater made of oddly-shaped oblongs and pastel blue walls. Fluc is organized by the artists themselves, and they bring in a lot of art exhibitions with a focus on contemporary as well as public art. With quality live music programming and cutting-edge Electronic music on top of that, it’s an awesome space that expertly mixes art and music (similar to Village Underground in London and Oxford Art Factory in Sydney ).

Although Fluc is technically two different spaces (Fluc Cafe upstairs and Fluc Wanne downstairs), the full-on nightclub action takes place downstairs. The interior is all exposed pipes, dark walls, rugged floors and a raised stage at the far end that packs in the kids. This is not a place for high-heels and designer labels - apart from the fact that in Vienna everyone smokes indoors, the vibe can be hectic (depending on the artists they bring in), and heavy-hitting with Borgore absolutely smashing the joint when Best Clubs In stopped by.

Fluc stands out in Vienna because of the constant stream of good artists doing both live music and DJ sets, plus the different vibes that you can opt-for. It’s really a tale of 2 spaces with the upstairs lounge and bar offering a more subdued, less crazy atmosphere - great for chatting, sitting back with a few drinks and watching the messy crowd below spilling out of the club on wobbly legs. It's always free to get in upstairs as well, and the music is always awesome.

There’s a really classic 'house-party' vibe that Viennese clubs seem to do so well, and with Fluc just celebrating their 9 year anniversary and still going strong you know they’re doing something right. The crowd is cool and young, the drinks are cheap and there’s a buzz in the air. Whether you’re looking for a big, trashy night, or a more chilled-out vibe and some good music, Fluc has got it covered.
